Susan Dankovich

Friday June 13, Opening Milonga

Susan trained in classical piano and violin through high school and has been studying and teaching Cultural Folk dances since 1980. The deep study of world folk music and dance traditions led her to a curiosity, then a love, for Argentine Tango.  She has been organizing tango classes, workshops, milongas, and curating her own music collections since 2015.  Playful and interesting music selections are her jam.

Cliff Coulter

Sunday June 15 Afternoon Milonga

Cliff compares his milongas to a carefully curated meal, where each tanda is like a course designed to stimulate the senses. He starts the evening with an appetizer of old guard tangos, awakening the senses and setting the mood. Then he might introduce a soft, rhythmic selection—like a comforting entrée—that gently teases the palate without overshadowing the main course. Understanding the emotions each orchestra evokes is key to his success.

As the evening progresses, Cliff shifts between musical moods—staccato to lyrical, hard to soft rhythms, romantic to dramatic—creating a dynamic range of flavors that keep dancers engaged and delighted.

The dessert, however, is always a surprise. Cliff never knows exactly what it will be, but like the perfect sweet finish to a meal, it always provides a delightful conclusion to the evening.

Doug Brons

Saturday June 14, Afternoon Milonga

A lifelong music lover, Doug was introduced to tango music in late 2007 just before his first trip to Argentina. He has continued his love for this music ever since, and started dancing tango in 2014. Developing his knowledge and library of tango music over time lead him naturally to DJing.
No matter where he is, Doug enjoys listening to the music of other TDJs and especially likes to travel to Buenos Aires to be inspired by the TDJs there. He favours music from the Golden Age but will venture outside of that era, especially into the 1950s, when it seems appropriate. He has way too many “favourite” orchestras, but is especially drawn to Pugliese, Di Sarli, Caló and Laurenz.

Pedro Dimitriu

Sunday June 15, Closing Milonga

Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pedro grew up during the renaissance of milongas in the 1980s. Immersed in this rich cultural scene, he honed his DJ skills by learning from iconic Buenos Aires DJs, mastering the art of reading the floor. With over 15 years of experience, Pedro combines his deep musical knowledge with an intuitive understanding of what keeps dancers energized, making both the music and the crowd the center of every night. A seasoned dancer himself, Pedro now calls Vancouver home, where he enjoys exploring the West Coast outdoors and delving into research on the human microbiome.
